Melt and fall

Melt and fall

Behind the Old Palmer site, an ice arch once stood over a tiny little inlet. Over the past few years rapid melting and warmer-than-average winter temperatures rapidly disintegrated the arch. It fell about a year ago. This is all that’s left.

Sorry for the delay. New Palmer station is here:
64°46′11.46″S
64° 3′0.29″W

There are some pictures and links from Google earth.

These folks have a very nice blog, and might even be at Palmer station while you’re in the area:
http://www.antarctica.uab.edu/

The best way to make a contact at Palmer station might be to look for other blogs posted by people who are currently there. I don’t know who’s there at the moment, there has been a major personnel change since my winter trip.
